Karma is a Sanskrit word meaning “action.” In Pāli, the language of the earliest Buddhist Canon, it’s rendered as “kamma.” Because “karma” is more widely known in the English-speaking world, it’s been used for the title of this book. But because “kamma” is probably the word the Buddha himself used, it—along with Pāli spellings of other terms—has been used in the text.
